Hill Training

21 Sep 2003 02:30PM — 6.5 miles — Mizuno Wave Creation

It's been a long time since I've trained on hills and I've never done a very good job of it. Yesterday I mapped out a 6.5 mile course along portions of the run I have done for the past two years on New Year's Day. It is a scenic course with a lot of ups and downs and there is a bike lane or sidewalk for large portions of the run.

I felt great throughout the entire run despite the fact that I'm trying to get a sore throat. It was also 100% humidity the entire way. For the last half mile, I was able to push my pace without pain. Even my endurance seemed ok! Hopefully I'll do this course a few more times before the Pervasive run as I hear it has a lot of hills.

Course details: Start at the Chevron at Lake Austin and Deep Eddy. Take Lake Austin until it becomes Scenic Drive. Take Scenic Drive to Rockmoor and then merge back onto Scenic Drive and head north to Pecos. Take Pecos back south all the way to Enfield. Take Enfield west back to the end of Lake Austin and return to the starting point.
